This is Fort Collins today.
There is a layer on ash on everything. The ash cloud seem to be at least 70 miles long. I just came back from Denver, and the ash cloud here is causing a 25-40 degree difference.
Oh, and we’re supposed to get snow tonight around midnight and it should last throughout Tuesday, with temperature dropping into 20’ s.
Welcome to 2020.

Friends of mine live there too and have been posting photos all day. Looks terrifying, stay safe and don’t breathe too deep.

Probably doing as much damage to your lungs as Covid after a prolonged period.

There is really no danger here, fire is mile and miles away, but it apparently jumped the defensive line at Pingree Park Road... we hope that the snow tonight might put it out.

I’m not really bothered by it at all, but we’ll just stay in the house all day. Bummed I can’t go wash my car :)

One of the lucky areas without a fire. The Cameron Peak one seemed almost contained when the ash cloud burst and ash started raining.

Yep, we’re getting the ash down here, too. Hopefully the snow will get some of this stuff out of the sky. Oh yeah, and if it could go ahead and put out some fires that’d be great.

Ashy snow in the summer, mmmmmmm.

We really need to be done with these fires. I know it’s nature, I know forests will grow back stronger, I know this ash is a good fertilizer, but I’m just over it.

Yesterday seemed worse down this way, at least. It’s still crazy intense though.

I was in Denver earlier today and on Saturday and it was nothing compared to north CO. Stuff really changes when you drive past Crossroads Blvd exit.

We’re supposed to get up to a foot in some areas. We’re all hoping it ends up dumping over the fire.

Same in eastern WA now. Many highways closed due to visibility issues - it wasn’t much better than this even in the city 2 years ago:
And some pretty crazy scenes too:

I can imagine, I’m on the northern edge of metro (highway 7 exit). We’re out sitting in the garage and the ash is blowing inside as the winds have picked up.

Jesus that’s bad.
We had I-70 closed for two weeks because of the fire at Glenwood Canyon.

I really hope that snow will hit the proper areas and put this stuff out.

I saw very brown sky over Fort Collins Sunday morning. Mid-day it rolled south.
Everything got
orange and dark as Hades. It looked like a set from “
The Martian”
by late afternoon/evening.

Yup! It’s been weird and yellowish all day.

And now we are all waiting for the moisture to bring the rocks down...
